Board of Directors Meeting 5:00 PM. Regular Meeting 6:00 PM. The program will feature the Marquette Catholic High School girls soccer team who recently won the Class A-1 state championship. We will have the coaches, team members and as many parents as are able to attend subject to available seating.

Regular Meeting 6:00 PM. Our speaker will be Rev. David Crowley, the new minister at the First Presbyterian Church, who is also a student of United States history. He will discuss Lyman Trumbull, a US Senator from Alton, who drafted and was primarily responsible for the passage of the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution. (When in Alton, he lived in the “Trumbull House”, located on Henry Street across the homes now occupied by Rotarians John Hopkins and Ford Phillips.)

Regular Meeting 6:00 PM. Our program, entitled “What’s New at Lewis & Clark?”, will feature some new developments at Lewis & Clark College, including a discussion about specific credit and non-credit courses being offered in the Fall term that might be of particular interest to Rotarians. The program will be presented by Kent Scheffel and Yvette McLemore. Have you ever considered about going back to school to broaden your horizons? Find out more how easy it is to take a course at Lewis & Clark this Fall. Classes start August 22.

Regular Meeting 6:00 PM. Chris Hespen, a representative of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, will discuss the state shooting complex at Sparta, Illinois that was built within the past 10 years and is currently managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources as a world-class operation. Mr. Hespen began working at the complex from its inception and will discuss the impact this project has had both in the shooting world and to the communities around Sparta.

I am not sure if he meant this as a professional diagnosis, but I know that this program should be of interest to most of us whether we are “long in the tooth” or not. Leonard Berg, a local attorney specializing in elder law, will discuss “Nursing Home and Long-Term Care and How to Pay for It in Today’s Economy”

Regular Meeting 6:00 PM. Our speaker will be State Representative Dan Beiser. Over a year ago, we scheduled Dan to talk about the events in the state legislature leading up to the Blogojevich impeachment, but we had to cancel him twice and never got to hear his thoughts. So this time he will bring us up to date on recent and pending legislation and if time allows, talk about the historic event in Springfield involving our ex-governor.

Regular Meeting 6:00 PM. Our program will feature Tad Armstrong, an attorney from Edwardsville who has recently written a book on the religious rights protected by the US Constitution. The book is entitled, “It’s okay to say God”. As many of you know, Tad is a provocative speaker who can make any legal subject much more interesting.
